Kirsten Foster
During stretches of childhood in Europe, Founder & Verbal Subjects Tutor Kirsten Foster absorbed a sense of what she considers the perfect environment for study. Her university years in libraries and cafes formed the lingering impression now captured in downtown Winslow: warm and inviting, convivial yet calming, inspiring and just a bit quirky. Kirsten, a former attorney at Perkins Coie LLP, has tutored college and high school students since her own student days studying Comparative Lit and European History at UC San Diego (with exchange stints and later PhD studies and law school at U.C. Berkeley, NYU in Paris, Dartmouth, Tulane and U.T. Austin, respectively—a perpetual student indeed!). Kirsten provides Help Desk support and private tutoring by appointment in Writing, Language Arts, Social Studies and German, as well as general study strategies and course planning, verbal SAT prep and college essay advising. |

The experience
I found Kirsten incredibly easy to work with. She's creative, flexible, and an effective communicator. My writing, SAT score, and numerous college essays have improved substantially. Working with Kirsten turned an exceedingly stressful process into an enjoyable one. Kirsten genuinely cares and I highly recommend her services to writers of any skill level. — S.E.
I was a new kind of student for Kirsten, because my academic issues (related to planning and organization) were mostly a result of the emotional stress of school rather than course content. However, in the two years that I was her student, she more than rose to the occasion and by engaging me intellectually and emotionally, she gave me hope to continue on an academic path and stamina to fix problems as they arose rather than becoming overwhelmed. I have seen her use this flexible, individualized approach with all of her students, and know that they have all been benefited, as will anyone who enters The Old Boar with an open mind and good intentions. — R.S. |
